The Collected Room
When we moved house, we came from a tiny 1925 bungalow to large, open floor plan 1960 daylight ranch. We moved all our old rugs and furniture in and just had to laugh. Everything looks so tiny! This was not going to work. We were lucky in that we had saved some money and were able to buy new furniture that would be a better fit. We waited until there was a buy more/save more sale at West Elm and got busy. It was actually pretty fun. I had never decorated a house this way and don’t regret it, but there is something about doing things the old way, piece by found piece, layer by found layer that works so good. Now that we’ve been in out home three years it does not look as much like a catalog photoshoot. More personal touched have been added, the sofas has gotten softer, the rugs trampled down, It’s good. The one room that did not get the new treatment however was our guest room. Only a new bed was put in because we’ve never had a guest room. Everything else was furniture and décor I brought with me. The room is bohemian and feminine and I now I use it mainly to hold my inventory for the web shop.
